GREEN ENERGY OPPORTUNITIES
Green Fuel at SCZONEA promising zone which is eligible to be a global hub for green energy
The African Continent is suffering the impact of climate change, despite the fact that its countries are among the least contributors to carbon emissions at the global level. The Global demand to face the challenges is on the rise. Now the time has come to shed light on Africa’s resources and potential as the solution.
Egypt has excellent wind and solar resources with the potential to generate renewable energy to produce green hydrogen for the purpose of producing green fuel (green ammonia and/or e-methanol) and has the market conditions to become a global powerhouse in the green energy value chain. The Government of Egypt is accordingly contemplating the addition of green hydrogen capacities to its renewable energy targets.

Furthermore, Egypt’s ample resources of industrial land, namely at the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) with its full integration to vital seaports on the Mediterranean and Red Sea, with geographical proximity to Europe and Asia, in addition to its world class infrastructure avails an outstanding opportunity to international market players to invest in the production of green hydrogen; and hence, green fuel with the purpose of exportation and/or green fuel bunkering.
In light of Egypt’s comparative advantage stemming from its abundant renewable energy sources, industrial land, and a unique geographical location with ease of access to the world, specifically to Europe and Asia; Egypt is hosting a number of pivotal projects, at SCZONE, in partnership with a number of global alliances to develop green ammonia and/or e-methanol facilities depending on green hydrogen generated from renewable energy resources.
The production facilities will be sited at SCZONE’s “Integrated Areas”, namely “Sokhna” and “East Port Said”. To date, SCZONE has signed 16 MOUs for the production of green hydrogen, green ammonia, and e-methanol, a number of which will turn into definitive agreements at COP27, with targeted commercial operation dates in 2025.
