4 new giant cranes arrived in Sokhna Port for operating in basin 2

Ain Sokhna port has received 4 new cranes, to be used in the second basin by March 2020.

Suez Canal Economic Zone has announced today that Sokhna port received the ship ZHEN HUA 36 with 4 container cranes (mobile cranes) of the latest model in the world as a first batch of a total of 13 giant cranes that will be used in container handling operations in the second basin of the Sokhna port by 2020.

These new cranes come for DP World in Ain Sokhna Port, which is one of the largest container cranes made by the Chinese company ZPMC with a handling capacity of 40 containers per hour.

These cranes are characterized by a load capacity of 80 tons and a height of 53 meters, which is capable of Access to pick up a distance of 25 containers, which contributes to increasing the effectiveness of services from ships to the port and raising the capabilities of dealing with heavy cargo in the port.

“DP World is a partner for us in the development of Sokhna Port and is working hard to finish the development process according to schedules, which is expected from an international company”.

Engineer Yehia Zaki, Chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone said.

Yehia Zaki announced that the major expansion project for basin 2 will be operational by the second quarter of 2020 and nearly double capacity at the port to 1.75 million TEUs per year.

The expansion cements DP World Sokhna’s position as a major gateway for Egypt’s trade.

Expansion of basin 2 Built at a cost of $520 million and complementing two operational basins, the expansion into Basin 2 includes a 1300 meter long quay with 400 meters handling area , and a 350,000 square meter container yard, it will significantly facilitate greater volume capacity at the port.
