SCZONE participates in the fifth edition of the international exhibition and conference for smart transportation, TransMEA

Mr. Waleid Gamal El-Dien, Chairman of the General Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), participated in the fifth edition of the International Exhibition and Conference for Smart Transport for the Middle East and Africa Trans-MEA 2023, held under the auspices of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and in the presence of the Egyptian prime minister Dr. Mustafa Madbouly. TransMEA was held under the slogan “localization of the transportation industry in Egypt,”. SCZONE participates with its pavilion in Hall “2,” through which it showcases its efforts in the sectors of maritime, logistical services, and transportation industries.

“SCZONE aims to develop all its affiliated ports, to benefit from the integration between ports and industrial zones, and to reach various global markets. SCZONE will launch a digital platform for customs and logistical services next year, as well as improving the services provided at the ports including ships’ bunkering services with fossil and green fuel. We witnessed the success of the green bunkering for the first ship in the world that runs on green fuel, as it was the first green bunkering operation in Egypt, the Middle East, and Africa.” Mr. Waleid Gamal El-Dien, Chairman of SCZONE stated.

” The volume of projects contracted or received final approval in SCZONE’s seaports, amounting to 7 projects during the fiscal year 2022/2023, with a total investment of $1.34 billion, as the lengths of the berths allocated to these projects reached 4,455 meters of berths and trading yards with a total area of 2.85 million square meters. SCZONE plays an active role in localizing the automotive industry and the industries that feed it. We also have Construction for the National Egyptian Railway Industries Company (NERIC) factory, which aims to assemble train and subway vehicles locally. NERIC signed a cooperation agreement with Hyundai Rotem to supply 320 metro cars for subway lines 2 and 3, and a contract is underway to produce 500 passenger railway cars.” Mr. Waleid Gamal El-Dien, Chairman of SCZONE added.

It is worth noting that SCZONE seeks to activate the memorandum of understanding that it signed last year with the sovereign fund of Egypt, the East Port Said Development Company, and the Egyptian International Automotive Group. Which aims to establish a joint automotive manufacturing complex in the East Port Said industrial zone (East Port Said Automotive Zone – EPAZ), where SCZONE is exerting efforts to attract the largest possible number of automotive manufacturers and leading brands from around the world to contribute to localize this industry in light of the national strategy which was launched from the East Port Said industrial zone. The EPAZ complex aims to manufacture 75,000 vehicles annually as a capacity for the first phase.
