SCZONE’s chairman met officials of APMT and SCCT to discuss the construction of the Container Terminal (2) at East Port-Said Port

Mr. Waleid Gamal El-Dien, Chairman of the General Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), and Major General Moheb Habashi, Governor of Port Said, conducted an inspection tour of the East Port Said Integrated Zone, to follow up on the progress of the development works at the East and West Port Said ports, as well as the East Port Said Industrial Zone.

At the beginning of the tour, Mr. Waleid Gamal El-Dien met with Mr. Keith Svendsen, CEO of APM Terminal, Mr. Lars Mikael, head of hubs and Cooperation at APM Terminals, and Mr. Steven Yoogalingam, Managing Director of the Suez Canal Container Terminal (SCCT), to discuss the status of the development works of Container Terminal (2) at East Port Said Port. The company officials explained that the work is proceeding according to the required time rates, and the company is providing the latest equipment to operate the berth fully automatically with green electricity to be the first of its kind in Egypt. They also appreciate their cooperation with SCZONE in Container Terminal (1) with a berth length of 2400m. This contributed to the port achieving the highest trading rates by acquiring about 80% of the transit trade volume in Egypt and being among the highest-ranked ports globally. They also pointed to the cooperation in completing Container Terminal (2) with a berth length of 955m, and a handling yard of 518 thousand m2, with the proposed date for its opening, during the second quarter of 2025, which is added to the first terminal and makes it one of the largest container handling terminals in the eastern and southern Mediterranean with a total berth length of approximately 3500 linear meters.

The Chairman of SCZONE and the Governor of Port Said also met with representatives of “Sky Logistics” Company, during their tour of East Port-Said Port, which is developing and operating the multi-purpose terminal at the port with a 900-meter berth length and a 380,000 m2 handling yard. They also inspected the construction work of the “Roots” terminal, which operates the clean dry bulk terminal for handling grains and crops with a 500-meter berth length and a 267,000 m2 handling yard.
They visited The Suez Canal “Ro-Ro” Terminal for the global consortium of “The Japanese Toyota Tsusho, the Frech Bolloré , and NYK” at East Port Said Port, which is being built on a 600-meter berth length and with a total terminal area of ​​225,000 m2 and a logistics yard of 170,000 m2.

The tour also included a visit to the East Port Said industrial zone, to follow up on the status of construction works of “NERIC” project to manufacture railway cars. The project manager explained that construction is proceeding according to the timeline positively on an area exceeding 300 thousand meters to be inaugurated next year.

“SCZONE is keen to support the various projects in East Port Said Port and has succeeded in contracting for all available berths in the port, and negotiations are underway regarding the remaining 1.5 km of berths in the port to enhance global value chains to match the increasing demand for products and goods, especially food and medicine. In light of the existing regional challenges, East Port Said Port had a double role to become the regional backer for neighboring countries. SCZONE is also keen to maintain the advanced positions it has achieved among container ports globally.
