(SCZone) signed a contract to develop Sokhna Port

The Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) and The General Authority for Roads and Bridges signed a contract this morning, to develop Ain-Sokhna Port that affiliated to the Economic Zone, as part of the construction and development works to do in Sokhna port , within the strategic plan to transform it to a largest hub port on the Red Sea and the Middle East region, to serve the global trade movement between the East and the West, and this comes in implementation of the directives for H.E Egyptian President to develop national ports, and to raise their efficiency, to increase their competitiveness among the other ports on the Red and the Mediterranean seas.

The contract was signed by Eng. Yehia Zaki, chairman of The Suez Canal Economic Zone, and the General Engineer Hossam El Din Mostafa, chairman of The General Authority for Roads and Bridges it is responsible for the development and construction works in Sokhna port.
The contract includes the design, implementation and supervision of construction works for building 4 new basins, with 12 km long of berths and a depth of 18 meters, and yards, with terminals of 5.6 million square meters and logistic areas 5.3 km square, linked with an internal network of railways with a length of 10 km connected to the high-speed electric train of Sokhna / New Alamein, in addition a huge road network inside the port about 14 km to connect the berths and all the port.

“All the construction and development works will finish within two years from now, with finishing works of the fast electric train project (Ain Sokhna / Alexandria / New Alamein) as an integrated project. Also Sokhna port has designed in the master plan to be the largest hub port in the Red Sea serving the global trade movement between South and East Asia, South and West Europe and North Africa, as the development works includes the construction of new berths that provide maritime services on the berths and terminals in the port.”

He also emphasized that Sokhna port is one of the most important ports of the Economic Zone, and the development works will raise its classification and increase its competitiveness within the other ports on The Red Sea, which contributes to transform the Sokhna industrial area into a global platform for petrochemical industries and to be a regional and African logistic hub to serve the global trade movement.
