SCZONE inaugurates a solar power plant at SIEMENS Energy Center in Sokhna

The Chairman of the General Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), Mr. Waleid Gamal El-Dien participated, this morning, in the inauguration ceremony of a solar power plant at the Siemens Energy Center within the integrated Sokhna zone. This event was attended by Dr. Mohamed Shaker Al-Marqabi, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mr. Frank Hartmann, German Ambassador to Cairo, and Mr. Vinod Philip, Executive Board Member of SIEMENS Energy. This comes within the framework of the strategic vision SCZONE adopted with its success partners in light of Egypt’s Vision 2030 and its environmental dimension aimed at gradually shifting towards a green economy and reducing harmful carbon emissions to reduce the increasing impact of climate change globally.

*“SCZONE is committed to supporting green projects that contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. All companies operating within SCZONE must rely on renewable energy sources in production implementing SCZONE’s strategy to transform into a sustainable economy to protect the environment through several industrial and logistical practices and activities, the most important of which is reducing dependence on fossil fuels. This trend supports the presence of industries produced within SCZONE in global markets. Especially in light of the restrictions that are being applied globally on traditional energy source usage in industry, such as the Carbon Limit Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) that the European Union has begun to implement. This policy requires additional duties on products and goods with a high carbon footprint.” SCZONE Chairman stated during his speech on the sidelines of the solar PV plant inauguration ceremony*

â€śWe are delighted to inaugurate the solar power plant. This is one of the important steps to achieving Egypt’s Vision 2030 for renewable energy, which aims to make Egypt a hub for the production and trading of renewable energy regionally and internationally. The participation of the private sector and companies operating in Egypt is essential to rely on renewable energy sources. Especially in light of the projects implemented by the Egyptian state in partnership with international entities in the fields of solar energy, wind energy, green fuel, nuclear energy, and other state efforts in this important sector. The economic cost of implementing green energy projects is unprecedented, but despite that these projects achieve long-term energy rationalization that enhances the state’s resources to preserve the rights of future generations.” Said the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy

â€śGerman companies, with their extensive experience in green energy and its applications, represent a key partner for Egypt in its green transformation plans, whether in the wind and solar power plants sector or various sustainable transport projects. This contributes to achieving the Egyptian vision of doubling the volume of reliance on renewable energy sources in the next phase. We affirm our pride in the strategic relations with Egypt at all levels.” The German Ambassador to Egypt declared* *“Siemens Energy is a pioneer in green energy technologies. The company aims to reach net-zero emissions in its operations by 2030. The company’s Solar PV plant has a capacity of 1.9 MW, with 3,280 solar panels, covering an area of 8,500 square meters. The system is expected to produce approximately 3 GWh of clean electricity annually, representing about 90% of the site’s needs. Thanks to this project, Siemens Sokhna can reduce its carbon footprint by 1,500 tons of CO2 equivalent per year.” Mr. Vinod Philip announced
