SCZONE delegation meets with representatives of JBIC, SMBC & SUMITOMO Corp.

As part of his tour in Tokyo to promote investment opportunities, Mr. Walied Gamal El-Dien, Chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), the Ambassador of Egypt to Japan, and their accompanying delegations met with Mr. Yoshimasa Yoshida, General Manager, of EMEA at Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC), a Japanese multinational banking and financial institution headquartered in Tokyo, Japan operating in the banking, corporate management and investment banking sector worldwide.

Mr. Walied Gamal El-Dien gave a presentation on the various activities of SCZONE and the incentives and investment advantages in it. They also reviewed a number of cooperation models with the Japanese side, represented by some companies operating within the region in the logistics and manufacturing fields. The two sides discussed joint cooperation in order to present investment opportunities for Japanese companies and present data on the investment climate in light of SCZONE’s strategy for 2030, especially since the group enjoys the confidence of Japanese institutions and companies around the world and has many channels of communication and direct work with Japanese manufacturers.

Mr. Hayashi Nobumitsu, Governor of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), received Mr. Walied Gamal El-Dien, and Mr. Mohamed Abu Bakr, Ambassador of Egypt to Japan, and their accompanying delegations at the Bank’s headquarters in Tokyo. SCZONE Chairman explained the activities established in the zone and the targeted industrial sectors. The attractive investment climate was also highlighted in light of the digitization of investor services to accelerate the pace of work in the zone. In turn, the Ambassador of Egypt to Japan showcased the country’s efforts in supporting and sponsoring foreign investments and new projects.

“SCZONE is interested in green fuel projects and investment opportunities available to establish projects for complementary and feeding industries for this industry. We also pay great attention to the automotive industry and Egypt is working to attract companies operating in that industry by issuing an automotive industry strategy and approving a package of incentives to encourage and attract major manufacturers.” SCZONE Chairman stated.

“JBIC is in the process of communicating with various companies to exploit investment opportunities in SCZONE and issuing reports on the attractive status of investment in several sectors in order to further cooperate with the economic zone.” JBIC Governor announced.

Mr. Katsushi Takiguchi, General Manager of the Infrastructure Dev. dept., Mr. Osamu Iriei, General Manager of the Energy Sector, and representatives of some of the companies of the SUMITOMO Corp., also met with the Chairman of SCZONE, the Egyptian Ambassador, and their accompanying delegations at the SUMITOMO Corp. headquarters in Tokyo. Representatives of SUMITOMO Corp. gave a presentation on the Company’s activities, which operate in 7 sectors around the world, including metal manufacturing, transportation systems, construction, and infrastructure. SUMITOMO is also interested in clean energy projects and owns several projects around the world in terms of production and distribution. At the end of the meeting, the two parties agreed to exchange information to study the possibility of cooperation in projects of common interest within SCZONE.
