Mr. Waleid Gamal El-Dien, Chairman of the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), held a series of meetings today in Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province, following the delegation’s transition from Guangdong. The meetings are part of SCZONE’s official roadshow to the People’s Republic of China, aimed at enhancing international cooperation and attracting foreign direct investment. The day’s agenda included high-level meetings with the leadership of SOHO Holding Group, one of China’s leading conglomerates, along with potential investors and partners in the fields of trade, industry, and logistics.
The delegation commenced its visit by heading to SOHO Group’s headquarters for a meeting with the President of SOHO Holdings Group, a prominent investment conglomerate operating in multiple sectors including bulk commodities trade, manufacturing, logistics, and international trade. The company has successfully expanded its presence in Asia, Africa, and South America, and is now targeting Egypt as its next strategic destination. The group plans to establish a presence within SCZONE through three key sectors: textiles and garments, tire manufacturing, and hardware components for machinery and equipment. Mr. Waleid Gamal El-Dien welcomed the potential collaboration and expressed SCZONE’s full support throughout all project implementation phases.
Following this, the delegation took part in a major seminar entitled: “Investing for the Future: Insights and Opportunities in SCZONE,” organized in collaboration with SOHO Group and several local Chinese entities. The seminar witnessed the attendance of 180 representatives from various SOHO Group companies, as well as export-import chambers, textile associations, and a wide range of companies in the textile and garment industries.
The event highlighted SCZONE’s capabilities, the incentives it offers to investors, as well as ongoing and upcoming projects across multiple industrial and service sectors. A Q&A session followed the seminar, allowing participants to directly engage with SCZONE officials and address their inquiries, during which Chinese companies showed strong interest in establishing investments in Egypt and particularly within SCZONE.
“SCZONE is working to present a fully integrated investment model that combines industry, logistics, services, and clean energy, all supported by a unique geographic location straddling both sides of the Suez Canal, linking the Red Sea to the Mediterranean Sea. This model is backed by robust infrastructure, an attractive package of investment incentives, and a broad network of free trade agreements, making SCZONE an ideal platform for manufacturing and exporting to both regional and global markets.” Mr. Waleid Gamal El-Dien, Chairman of SCZONE, declared in his speech during the seminar.
The delegation concluded its agenda in Nanjing by participating in a roundtable titled: “Cross-Border Logistics Cooperation” between China, Egypt, and ICDF. The session featured contributions from international and Chinese entities active in e-commerce and logistics. The meeting commenced with welcoming remarks by Ms. Irene Pivetti, Honorary President of the China-Europe Cooperation Center and President of the Italian Chinese Development Foundation (ICDF). In her remarks, she praised SCZONE’s advancements in various industrial and logistical sectors, as well as port development efforts, referencing her earlier visit and on-site observations of current projects. Mr. Waleid Gamal El-Dien then delivered a promotional presentation on the investment prospects within SCZONE, showcasing the competitive advantages it offers. The meeting also included a keynote address from Mr. Liu Yujian, Secretary-General of the Nanjing Cross-Border E-Commerce Association, who confirmed the growing interest of Chinese companies in strengthening partnerships with Egypt, especially in light of SCZONE’s strategic location and investor-friendly ecosystem.
“SCZONE is placing increasing focus on the e-commerce and digital services sector, recognizing its vital role as a global economic growth driver. SCZONE is actively working on developing supportive legislative frameworks and digital infrastructure to serve this sector, including the establishment of fully integrated logistics zones and smart warehousing hubs near ports, enabling Chinese and international companies to use SCZONE as a strategic gateway for distributing goods to the Middle East, Africa, and Europe.” Mr. Waleid Gamal El-Dien, Chairman of SCZONE, declared during the meeting. These meetings fall within SCZONE’s broader strategy to strengthen its international presence and promote Egypt’s investment potential, aiming to attract strategic and industrial partners from around the world.
