Mr. Waleid Gamal El-Dien, Chairman of the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), participated as a keynote speaker in a panel discussion titled “Global Energy Partnerships: Between Reality and Desire” during the activities of the fifth edition of the global summit and exhibition “Hydrogen Dialogue 2024” held in Nuremberg, Germany. During the discussion, SCZONE Chairman presented the strategy to localize the green fuel industry and its complementary and supporting industries, as well as the logistical activities and services associated with this industry, such as green fuel bunkering, which SCZONE has successfully offered through its ports on both the Mediterranean and the Red Sea.
This panel discussion also featured the participation of: Prof. Dr. Chihab Bouden, former Tunisian Minister of Higher Education; Dr. Jürgen Friedrich, Ministerial Envoy for Hydrogen Projects at the German Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action; Mr. Tobias Götthardt, Bavarian Minister of State for Economic Affairs, Regional Development, and Energy; Dr. Holger Klassen, Director of Energy and Climate Affairs at Aurubis AG; and Ms. Cornelia Müller-Bagel, Head of Green Gas Division at VNG AG.
“SCZONE has inspiring success stories in the green fuel sector. We were pioneers in launching the first green hydrogen project during the COP27 Climate Summit in Egypt. Since then, SCZONE has taken the responsibility to provide full support for the localization of the green fuel industry and its complementary and feeding industries. We are actively promoting investment opportunities in this field, such as solar panels, wind turbines, electrolyzers, and membranes for desalination plants. Additionally, we have taken effective steps to provide logistics services reliant on green fuel, like the bunkering services SCZONE ports currently offer. We are also striving to activate framework agreements signed with major global companies and consortia specializing in green hydrogen industries and applications. To this end, we have allocated areas within our industrial zones in Sokhna and East Port Said for this promising industry, which serves as a cornerstone for transitioning to a green economy in alignment with Egypt’s Vision 2030.” SCZONE Chairman declared
It is worth noting that the “Hydrogen Dialogue” Global Summit and Exhibition brings together decision-makers, international experts, business leaders, officials, scientists, and all stakeholders involved in the entire value chain of the hydrogen economy. This event fosters dialogue, knowledge exchange, and networking among all parties to support the successful scaling of the hydrogen economy in Europe. The 2023 summit witnessed remarkable success, with over 1,500 participants, representatives from more than 30 countries, and 48 exhibitors.
