As stated by the Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency, President El-Sisi held a meeting Tuesday, 29 December 2020, with the Ministerial Economic Committee in the presence of: Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt Mr. Tarek Amer, Minister of Planning and Economic Development Dr. Hala Al-Saeed, Minister of International Cooperation Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Finance Dr. Mohamed Maait, Minister of Public Business Sector Mr. Hisham Tawfik, Minister of Trade and Industry Ms. Nevine Gamea, Presidential Advisor for Financial Affairs Major General Mohamed Amin and Chairman of Suez Canal Economic Zone Eng. Mohamed Yehia Zaki.
The Spokesman added that the meeting discussed the framework of the Suez Canal Economic Zone, the most important production activities that will be the central focus in its industrial zones and the development of the digitalization of the State’s banking processes.
His Excellency said that all projects in the industrial zone in Suez Canal Economic Zone should complement the country’s plan to localize industry, while giving priority to the production of all commodities being imported based on the needs of the local market in order to reduce imports burden and explore export opportunities.
The Spokesman also added the meeting looked over the latest updates regarding the implementation of the electronic collection system across the country, within the State’s digital transformation strategy, especially now that its importance has doubled due to the repercussions of COVID-19 Pandemic and all precautionary measures taken. It is worth noting that the new system provides full security when it comes to transactions and data transfer in accordance with international standards, thus linking the governmental authorities and institutions with the banking sector through the government’s payment and collection centers that already enjoys a modern electronic infrastructure providing an encrypted network which allows safe transactions across various electronic platforms.
Finally, His Excellency called for strengthening the executive steps taken to promote electronic collection for it to be an alternative to the current traditional payment methods in order to keep up with the technological development that helps enhance the performance and facilitate the payment procedures for citizens.
