GASEZ grants SCZONE the certificate of “SDG Model Zone Partner”

SCZONE has been designated as an “SDG Model Zone Partner” by the Global Alliance of Special Economic Zones (GASEZ). This classification was announced during the World Investment Forum which was held in the United Arab Emirates in October 2023, and the second annual conference of “GASEZ”, which was held in Barcelona, Spain on November 9, 2023.

SCZONE obtained this certificate as part of the list of 50 SDG Model Zones Partners. Which were selected from 7,000 special economic zones represented by the “GASEZ” alliance. The candidates for the model zones for the sustainable development goals were selected through the World Investment Report for 2019 issued by UNCTAD according to several criteria, the most important of them are Commitment to sustainable development, promotion of investment in the SDGs, levels of social, environmental and governance standards and compliance; and linkages and spillovers. This award comes as a recognition of the pioneering efforts of SCZONE in this field, the beginning of further cooperation in the coming period, and access to the best practices followed by the economic zones, which can apply to others.

It is worth noting that the Global Alliance for Special Economic Zones (GASEZ) was launched through the cooperation of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) with seven global, regional, and national associations representing more than 7,000 special economic zones. It aims to modernize special economic zones around the world and maximize their contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. SCZONE was the only representative of Egypt on the 2023-2024 list of nominations for model areas for the Sustainable Development Goals.
