Egypt, Bechtel to set up petrochem complex in Suez Canal Corridor zone

A petrochemical complex will be jointly established by Egyptā€™s petroleum sector and US firm Bechtel in the economic zone of the Suez Canal Corridor, the largest of its kind in the region, with an investment of $7.5 billion. President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met Bechtel Group chief executive officer Brendan Bechtel recently in Cairo to discuss the project.

Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, minister of petroleum and mineral resources Tarek al-Mulla and head of the general intelligence Abbas Kamel were also part of the meeting.

The meeting reviewed overall investments of the Bechtel Group in Egypt that encompasses several sectors, according to Egyptian media reports.
