Gamal El-Dien: The start of development in Technology Valley supports SCZONE’s full readiness to localize industry in Egypt

Within the framework of the Egyptian state’s efforts to develop Sinai, Mr. Waleid Gamal El-Dien, Chairman of the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), witnessed this morning the groundbreaking ceremony for two Indian alloy factories, “Ferro Genesis” and “Willow Ferro”. These projects represent the inaugural investments in the “Technology Valley” area (Ismailia East), which is affiliated with SCZONE. The total investments for the first phase of both projects amount to $40 million. This event coincides with the tenth anniversary of the 2015 presidential decree that established the Suez Canal Economic Zone. The ceremony was attended by Major General Akram Galal, Governor of Ismailia; Mr. Ajit Gupte, the Indian Ambassador to Cairo; Mr. Chinmay Kumar, Chairman of Ferro Genesis; and Mr. Jasjeet Singh, Chairman of Willow Ferro, in addition to a number of SCZONE’s executive leaders.
The first project is the establishment of the Indian “Ferro Genesis” factory, to be implemented in two phases with a third phase pending agreement. The factory will produce Silico Manganese and Ferro Silicon from quartz and manganese ore, both of which are essential components in the production of high-quality steel. The investments for the first phase of the project amount to $15 million, covering an area of 35,000 m² and providing 150 direct job opportunities.
The second project involves the establishment of the Indian “Willow Ferro” factory for metallurgical industries, also to be developed in two phases. The first phase will be on an area of 40,000 square meters, with investments of $25 million, creating 120 direct job opportunities. The project’s estimated annual production capacity is 36,000 tons of Silico Manganese products, with the factory set to begin initial operations by producing Ferro Silicon and Ferro Chrome.
On the sidelines of the ceremony, Mr. Waleid Gamal El-Dien stated:
“I am delighted to witness the launch of industrial development in SCZONE’s Ismailia East ‘Technology Valley’ area today, located in the heart of Sinai, a cherished part of our nation. This comes after three years of continuous effort, and the success we are seeing in developing the Ismailia East industrial zone is a direct reflection of SCZONE’s promotional endeavors. Most importantly, localizing industry and logistics in this area will provide numerous direct and indirect job opportunities for the people of Sinai.”
“SCZONE’s efforts are integrated with the state’s broader Sinai development initiatives, which include the establishment of New Ismailia City, for which ‘Technology Valley’ serves as an industrial backyard. This aligns with SCZONE’s strategy of creating integrated development communities supported by industry and logistical activities. This entire ecosystem is serviced by an advanced transport network, including the new El-Ferdan Bridge, reopened and upgraded railway stations, and the July 3rd tunnels under the Suez Canal, in addition to infrastructure and utilities such as power plants and water desalination and treatment facilities. The commencement of development in ‘Technology Valley’ empowers all the economic tools at SCZONE’s disposal, with our four industrial zones and six seaports integrating to connect manufacturing and production areas with target markets.” SCZONE Chairman declared.
Mr. Waleid Gamal El-Dien concluded his speech by announcing anticipated openings in the “Qantara West” industrial zone next September, as SCZONE continues to work on localizing and deepening industry across all its industrial zones, particularly Qantara West, which is a global industrial base for the textiles and ready-made garments sector.
