Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) announced that its affiliated seaport (Al-Arish) received the first “RO-RO” ship (Al-Horreya 2) on the new 250m commercial berth, which has been completed and is being commissioned on a trial basis. This comes within the framework of the port’s reception of humanitarian and medical aid ships provided by the Egyptian country to both Syria and Turkey and sending this aid through the port with a geographically privileged location in the eastern Mediterranean.
“SCZONE is working in full swing to develop and upgrade all its affiliated ports. Al-Arish port’s reception of the Ro-Ro ship during the trial operation of the new berth is an affirmation of SCZONE’s efforts in the development work. SCZONE is preparing Al-Arish Port to be one of North Sinai gates for development coping with Egypt’s vision and its interest in promoting the development of the Sinai Peninsula, especially after the great stability that the cities of North Sinai are currently witnessing, basically the city of El-Arish and the seaport, which is the only outlet to North Sinai. The port is equipped to receive various types of ships instead of being limited to commercial ships. This means a qualitative expansion in the service of global seaborne trade across the Mediterranean coasts.” SCZONE Chairman declared.
It’s worth mentioning that Al-Arish Sea Port is witnessing the completion of the implementation of two berths, the first of which is 250 meters long and is currently being commissioned until its official opening, and the second berth with a length of 915 meters. The development of Al-Arish Port is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2024. The development works include the construction of berths, seawalls, trading yards, and internal roads, raising the efficiency of buildings, port fences, and gates, with investments equivalent to EGP 4 billion.
