An official delegation from the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), led by the Chairman, Mr. Waleid Gamal El-Dien, accompanied by Cap. Mohamed Ibrahim, SCZONE’s Assistant Chairman, and Dr. Mohamed Abouldahab, SCZONE’s General Manager of Green Economy, visited the Japanese capital, Tokyo, to participate in the ninth edition of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9).
On the sidelines of the conference, the SCZONE delegation met with officials from Toyota Tsusho, a key partner in the global consortium operating the Ro-Ro (roll-on/roll-off) station at the western berth of East Port Said Port. The consortium also includes France’s Bolloré and Japan’s NYK. The meeting focused on the latest developments and the official opening date for the highly anticipated Ro-Ro station, which spans a total area of 212,000 m², with a 600-meter-long berth and a 170,000 m² logistics yard. The meeting was attended by Mr. Takao Tomita, General Manager of the Infrastructure Projects Division at Toyota Tsusho, and Dr. Mohamed Abdel Gawad, Minister Plenipotentiary for Trade in Japan.
“I want to stress the importance of continuing our efforts to complete the Ro-Ro station at East Port Said Port on schedule. This station will play a crucial role in serving the automotive industry, a key sector we are strategically targeting for localization. Projects like this give us an additional investment advantage, qualifying SCZONE to become a regional hub for automotive and related industries. It acts as a gateway to various global markets. The seamless integration between SCZONE’s industrial zones and ports enables the development of smart industrial and logistical bases at the heart of a vital international trade corridor. This integration enhances our competitiveness and supports the consolidation of global supply chains.” It is worth noting that the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) is an open and inclusive forum that brings together all African countries and development partners, including international and regional organizations, donor countries, Asian countries, the private sector, and civil society organizations working on African development. The forum aims to enhance cooperation between Asia and Africa, with a focus on African development, and to create a comprehensive dialogue on issues related to economic growth, trade, investment, sustainable development, and governance. It also seeks to integrate African priorities into the cooperation agendas of partners and donors and to mobilize support for development initiatives on the continent. The conference was held every five years from 1993 to 2013, and since then, it has been held every three years, alternating between Japan and an African country. This ninth edition follows the eighth edition, which was held in Tunisia in 2022
