Mr. Waleid Gamal El-Dien, Chairman of the General Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), ended the second stop on his promotional tour in France, in Marseille, as part of the Egyptian-French Business Forum, to complete the demonstration of the available investment opportunities to the French business community in the targeted sectors, especially in the maritime sector and logistics services, to attract new French investments within SCZONE. He participated in a session entitled ” Doing Business in Egypt: Challenges, Opportunities, and Best Practices”, and a session entitled ” Trade and Investment Opportunities in the Maritime Sector”, in addition to holding several meetings with various French companies.
Mr. Waleid Gamal El-Dien, began his participation by attending the opening session of the forum, followed by participating in a session entitled ” Doing Business in Egypt: Challenges, Opportunities and Best Practices “.The session was held with the participation of Mr. Hossam Heiba, Chairman of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), Mr. Naguib Sawiris, Chairman of Orascom Investment, Mr. Frédéric Soliman, Lawyer and Founding Partner of Soliman, Hashish & Partners, and Mr. Pascal Furth, Head of the economic department at French Embassy to Egypt.
“We exerted great efforts to equip SCZONE with a world-class infrastructure in its industrial zones and affiliated ports. These efforts included establishing environmental and legal frameworks to provide an attractive and sustainable investment environment, financial and non-financial incentives, and the ability of SCZONE’s strategic location to reduce transportation costs, and the availability of various energy resources and trained human capital at competitive prices. The efforts also included digitizing services and the one-stop-shop service that issues all constructing and operating licenses. SCZONE has partnerships with various international institutions and global companies to accelerate the pace of green fuel production and export it to European markets.” Mr. Waleid Gamal El-Dien, Chairman of SCZONE declared during the session.
Mr. Walid Gamal El-Din also participated in a session entitled ” Trade and Investment Opportunities in the Maritime Sector”, during which he reviewed the capabilities of the SCZONE’s ports and their strategic location, which attracted many international port operators, including the French CMA CGM, which cooperates with SCZONE in operating a container terminal at Sokhna Port within a global alliance of port operators.
“The development works that are nearing completion in the various ports of SCZONE, which led to increasing the areas of quays, handling yards, and deepening the draft, and also increased the readiness of the ports to provide ships’ bunkering services with traditional and green fuel through the ports of Sokhna and East Port Said. The development works of the Al-Arish Port contributed to its readiness to receive all international aid directed to the Gaza Strip in light of the current events, in addition to being a center for exporting cement and clinker from North Sinai, which confirms the strategic importance of SCZONE ports regionally and internationally.” Mr. Waleid Gamal El-Dien, Chairman of SCZONE said.
On the sidelines of the event, Mr. Waleid Gamal El Dien visited Marseille port, and it was agreed to start cooperation between Marseille port and SCZONE ports in all fields related to the development of ports and logistics. He also met with representatives of several French companies operating in the field of maritime transport and logistics services to discuss aspects of cooperation in this vital sector through SCZONE ports. He also met with representatives of companies operating in several targeted industrial sectors.
