Mr. Waleid Gamal El-Dien, Chairman of the General Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone, participated in the Egyptian-French Business Forum held in the French capital, Paris, as part of a high-level Egyptian government delegation, which includes: Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development, Minister of Health and Population, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Chairman of the Health Care Authority, CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones, Head of the Commercial Representation Service, and the Egyptian Ambassador to France,
with several businessmen representing Egyptian private sector companies,
the forum includes bilateral meetings and round tables on investment opportunities in Egypt, and enhancing cooperation with the French financial and business community in areas of common interest.
During a session entitled “Green Opportunities and Carbon Footprint” in which Mr. Waleid Gamal El-Dien, along with Eng. Ahmed El Sewedy, Chairman of Elsewedy Electric, Mr. Ali El-Tayeb, CEO of Shift EV, and Mr. Karim El-Azzawy, CEO of Voltalia Egypt, SCZONE’s Chairman demonstrated the efforts and contributions of the SCZONE in the green fuel sector to achieve the strategic vision aimed at transforming to a green economy, Which includes the establishment of the first green fuel production project within the integrated Sokhna zone, and the export of the first shipment of green ammonia produced by the project abroad, as well as winning a global supply contract for green fuel to Germany, in addition to the SCZONE’s huge investments in infrastructure and facilities implemented with international specifications exceeding $6 billion, to serve green energy projects such as the establishment of desalination plants, and other important facilities for this sector, as well as the readiness of the SCZONE’s ports to provide green bunkering,
However, the SCZONE succeeded in supplying the world’s first ship powered by green fuel,
Gamal El-Dien pointed to the SCZONE’s plan to become the world’s leading center for the production and trading of green fuel, as the SCZONE aims to attract more investments in this sector and its complementary industries, Stating that Egypt’s interest in strengthening global partnerships in green sectors, especially electric cars, in the coming period because of their direct impact on facing the negative effects of climate change, and reducing the carbon footprint.
The Chairman of SCZONE also participated in a session entitled “Doing Business in Egypt” within a business round table in the presence of the Minister of Investment and the CEO of the Investment Authority, during which he discussed the role of the Suez Canal Economic Zone in creating an investment climate, explaining that the SCZONE digitizes the services provided to investors within the “one-stop service” that aims to speed up the completion of construction, executive and other procedures. H.E. set a clear time frame for all procedures, while facilitating governance and control, to reach advanced global indicators in this regard, and
the success of SCZONE in issuing the unified customs guide and completing a specialized electronic platform to follow up on customs and logistical procedures, as well as continuous training for human cadres within SCZONE to develop their capabilities and qualify them to carry out their responsibilities.
